PS: Danke an Carl Hofstetter in Lambengolmor#1145: Holograph of full text of (draft) Letter 187 (L:247-8)!

We now know about a Quenya poem Tolkien recited in 1958; though the recording has not been released yet, we have his English translation.
There has been some discussion about it on the 'Christopher Tolkien' Facebook group; Patrick Wynne and Harm Schelhaas commented on the Editorial Team having been asked years ago to try and transcribe the Quenya from the audio, as CT wasn't able to find the prepared written text for JRRT's speech.
For context see here.Twenty years have flowed away down the long river
And never in my life will return for me from the sea
Ah years in which looking far away I saw ages long past
When still trees bloomed free in a wide country
And thus now all begins to wither
With the breath of cold-hearted wizards
To know things they break them
And their stern lordship they establish
Through fear of death

[Forgive me for writing in English; while I can read German somewhat, my ability to speak/write in it is too unreliable to attempt it here!]
Note that the English version of Tolkien's verse as quoted in the Huffington Post piece isn't quite accurate. Further, the Quenya that Tolkien recites on the recording doesn't extend beyond "cold-hearted wizards".
The corrected English, extending as far as the Quenya does, together with what I think is an interesting challenge to make use of this rare opportunity of having the English translation before the Quenya, can be found here.
